LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — Prosecutors say 9/11 and Osama bin Laden’s speeches influenced a Saudi citizen accused of plotting to launch a terrorist attack in the U.S.
Court documents released Thursday say that Khalid Ali-M Aldawsar described in journal entries a plan to travel to New York, place bombs in several rental cars that could be remotely detonated and leave the vehicles in different places during rush hour.
He was legally in the U.S. on a student visa and studied chemical engineering at Texas Tech before transferring this year to a nearby college.
Aldawsari was expected to appear in federal court Friday. He was arrested Wednesday on a charge of attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction.
One of Aldawsari’s alleged targets was the Dallas home of former President George W. Bush.
