Land dispute drags on a decade

LEBANON, Ore. (AP) — A project to build a few homes south of Lebanon has been in the works for a decade.

It has taken that long for the Linn County Board of Commissioners to rule that the 15 acres south of town is not valuable farm or forest land.

The Albany Democrat-Herald says 59-year-old Bob Morris and his two brothers-in-law bought the land to build their retirement homes on it. He says he never thought it would take this long — and $50,000 in legal and consulting fees — to get a decision.

The project has been blocked primarily by the Friends of Linn County, a group that tries to conserve farm and forest lands.

Linn County Commissioner Roger Nyquist says the case shows that Oregon’s land use process is broken.
