Strong winds and frigid temperatures limited angling effort on last weekend’s opening of the sturgeon retention season in the Bonneville pool, but the catch was good for those braving the elements.

Angler sampling was not available, but state enforcement agents checked 17 legal sturgeon.

Klineline Pond at Salmon Creek Park has been stocked with 2,500 rainbow trout. No report on angling success was available.

Streamflows are down on the Washougal and East Fork of the Lewis rivers, while about normal on the North Fork Lewis and Cowlitz.

Angler checks and related information from the Washington (WDFW) and Oregon (ODFW) departments of Fish and Wildlife:

Lower Columbia — Longview to Portland, 31 boaters with one legal sturgeon kept plus 15 sublegals released; three Oregon bank rods with no sturgeon. (ODFW)

Camas-Washougal, two bank rods with three sublegal sturgeon released. (WDFW)

Columbia Gorge (downstream of Bonneville Dam), two boaters with no sturgeon; three Oregon bank rods with no sturgeon. (ODFW)

North Bonneville, two boaters with one sublegal sturgeon released, (WDFW)

Mid-Columbia — The Dalles pool, 28 boaters with four oversize and 56 sublegal sturgeon released; 35 bank rods with two legal sturgeon kept plus one oversize and 15 sublegals released. (WDFW)

Cowlitz — Forty-one bank rods with one steelhead kept and three released; 21 boaters with no steelhead. (WDFW)

Kalama — Two bank rods with no steelhead. (WDFW)

Lewis — Seven bank rods with no steelhead. (WDFW)

North Fork Lewis — Fifty-three bank rods with eight steelhead kept; 13 boaters with one steelhead kept and one coho released. (WDFW)
