OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — The family of the 17-year-old gunman who killed an Omaha assistant principal and wounded the principal at his Nebraska high school say they are shocked and confused by his actions.

Robert Butler Jr.’s family issued a statement Thursday through Omaha police after authorities released details of Wednesday’s shooting at Millard South High School. Police say after Butler shot the two administrators at the Omaha school, he fled and killed himself.

Assistant Principal Vicki Kaspar died at an area hospital after she was shot. Principal Curtis Case remains hospitalized.

Butler’s family says it extends it’s sympathies to Kaspar’s and Case’s families.

Butler had moved to Omaha from Lincoln in November to live with his father, who is an Omaha police detective.
