DALLAS (AP) — SMU athletic director Steve Orsini has received a contract extension that runs through May 2015

The school made the announcement Thursday. Orsini has been SMU’s athletic director since 2006.

Orsini hired football coach June Jones in 2008 and the Mustangs’ football team ended a 25-year bowl drought the next year with a win at the Hawaii Bowl that gave them an 8-5 record, only the second winning season since they resumed play in 1989 after being the only team ever given the NCAA’s so-called death penalty.

The Mustangs ended their season last week with a 7-7 record after losing to Army in the Armed Forces Bowl. They are 15-12 since going 1-11 in Jones’ first season after he left Hawaii following an undefeated regular season and BCS appearance.
