SAO PAULO (AP) — Brazilian officials say a marathon runner and two open-water swimmers were caught doping last year.

The country’s track and field federation says Maria Zeferina Rodrigues Baldaia has been temporarily suspended after a steroid-masking substance was found in her urine sample Nov. 28. She will go before a sports tribunal.

Baldaia won the 2008 Sao Paulo Marathon. She says the positive test likely stems from medicine she took to reduce swelling in her knee.

Brazil’s swimming federation says open-water swimmers Samuel de Bona and Lauren Goulart tested positive for a stimulant in November. The federation recommends a 30-day suspension to Bona and only a warning to Goulart because she is underage.
