LA GRANDE, Ore. (AP) — Horizon Wind Energy says it has completed its application to build the Antelope Ridge Wind Farm in the Craig Mountain area and it is ready for review and public comment.

The La Grande Observer reports the Oregon Department of Energy has scheduled a public information meeting in the town of Union on Jan. 25.

Horizon’s proposal to build the 300-megawatt wind farm has sharply divided the local community, with 52 percent of voters opposing it in a nonbinding advisory vote last November.

Opponents say it would have negative impacts on scenery, property values, wildlife and tourism while supporters say it would create jobs, promote economic development and produce green energy.
