Heidi Bucklin banked in the game-winning shot at the buzzer as the Columbia River girls basketball team won their first game of the season, defeating Fort Vancouver 41-40 in a 3A Greater St. Helens League game Monday.
Both teams were seeking their first victory of the season, and the game was close throughout.
Fort Vancouver (0-12, 0-5) was ahead by four with about a minute to play.
River’s Lauren Wetzel made a 3-pointer, and then Fort committed a turnover. The Trappers played tough defense on the inbounds play, but Bucklin was able to throw up a shot under presser for the winner and her only points of the game.
Fort’s Mar’shay Moore led all scorers with 23 points, and teammate Skyla Reyes had 14.
Columbia River (1-12, 1-5) was led in scoring by Lauren Heller with 15 points. Wetzel added 11.
Camas 42, Heritage 39 — Kendra Preuninger made four 3-pointers and scored 20 points, leading the Papermakers to the non-league victory.
Sydney Schwartz of Camas was all over the boards, grabbing 15 rebounds.
Heritage cut a six-point deficit to three in the final quarter, but the Timberwolves struggled at the free throw line during the game.
TeeTee Martin led the Timberwolves with 19 points.
Boys basketball
Camas 54, Heritage 8 — Camas took advantage of a nightmarish shooting night by Heritage for the non-league win.
Jacob Kaler scored 12 points and Addison Owen 11 for the Papermakers (9-3).
Heritage (1-11) was 2 for 29 from the field in the game and committed 20 turnovers.
Hockinson 60, Washougal 49 — Joshua Hall scored 21 points, and the Hawks used a dominating second quarter to take command at Washougal.
Hockinson made eight 3-pointers while improving to 3-0 in the 2A Greater St. Helens League.
TC White led Washougal with 13 points. Isaac Bischoff added 12 points and five rebounds. Michael McElroy had seven points and seven steals.
Mark Morris 77, Woodland 50 — Dalton Thacker scored 15 points, leading three Monarchs in double figures.
Mark Morris trailed by 10 after the first quarter then outscored the Beaver by 37 points the rest of the way.
Nick Fuller led the Beavers with 18 points.
