OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Gov. Chris Gregoire is expected to continue calling for government reorganization in her state of Washington state speech Tuesday to the Legislature.
She wants to consolidate education agencies into one department and give colleges more control of tuition. She wants to turn the ferry system into a regional service with Puget Sound counties responsible for funding. And she wants to change the workers compensation system to reduce the cost of helping disabled workers.
The second-term Democrat has also proposed spending cuts to help close a $4.6 billion gap in the next two-year budget.
The Legislature began its 105-day session on Monday in Olympia.
