BELLINGHAM, Wash. (AP) — Bellingham police say five people are in custody after shots were fired Thursday night in an apparent gang-related encounter. No injuries have been reported.
Police spokesman Mark Young says it appears shots were fired when five occupants of one car — all male — confronted a group of people on a Bellingham street. He says those in the car are believed to have fired, with at least one person in the street returning fire.
A nearby Whatcom County sheriff’s deputy pulled over a car matching a description of the one involved in the shooting. Young says the five occupants were arrested for investigation of various offenses including DUI, minor in possession of alcohol and obstructing an officer. He says all five appeared to be intoxicated.
