NEW YORK (AP) — The Mets have added outfielder Scott Hairston and finalized their one-year deal with right-hander Chris Young.
The 30-year-old Hairston hit .210 with 10 homers and 36 RBIs for San Diego last year, where he was teammates with Young. Hairston has a .245 average, 68 homers and 198 RBIs in seven big league seasons.
San Diego declined its $8.5 million option on Young, sidelined most of the season with a strained right shoulder. It was his third significant injury in as many seasons.
He made four starts all year, three from Sept. 18 on, and wound up 2-0 with an 0.90 ERA. Young is 13-12 with a 4.13 ERA in 36 starts in the last three seasons.
