HOUSTON (AP) — Doctors say the transfer of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords to a hospital in Houston went flawlessly and she’s ready to start rehabilitation.
Tucson surgeon Dr. Randall Friese traveled with Giffords to Houston. He says as the ambulance drove through the streets of Tucson, they could hear applause. Giffords heard and smiled.
Giffords was taken by jet and then helicopter to the ICU at Texas Medical Center. Doctors say she has a drain in her brain because of a fluid buildup, so she will stay for now in the ICU. She will be moved later to the center’s rehabilitation hospital.
Doctors say she’ll have her first rehab session in the ICU Friday afternoon.
