NEWPORT, Ore. (AP) — A central Oregon woman has died in an apparent accident at a logging site in the Oregon Coast Range.

The Lincoln County sheriff’s office said Friday that 28-year-old Heather Joanne Smith of Redmond was crushed between two vehicles on a U.S. Forest Service road near a logging site close to the border with Lane County near the coast.

Deputies said one of the unoccupied vehicles had inadvertently been left in neutral and rolled down a slight grade, pinning Smith between it and a second unoccupied vehicle on Thursday.

The exact cause is still under investigation, but no criminal charges are expected to be filed.

Deputies said Smith was the girlfriend of one of the workers and not employed by the logging company.
