PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Searchers have found the body of an Oregon-based firefighter who failed to show up at an out-of-state blaze last week.
The Oregonian reports that 32-year-old Steven Dickerson, a U.S. Forest Service firefighter, was found dead Sunday northeast of Oakridge in the Willamette National Forest in Oregon. His body was found after a three-day search involving four police agencies, tracking dogs and a helicopter.
The Forest Service says Dickerson was found in a remote forested area with rough terrain and no trail access. Plans were under way to recover the body Monday.
Police say there appears to be no sign of foul play.
The Oregonian says the case has been referred to the medical examiner.
