ILWACO, Wash. (AP) — A Coast Guard helicopter crew has rescued an injured Selah, Wash., man from a cliff near North Head Lighthouse on the southwest Washington coast.

The Coast Guard says Pacific County fire officials asked for help late Thursday afternoon after it became clear the man’s injuries would make it hard for cliff rescue personnel to retrieve him.

The 34-year-old man reportedly was fishing from the rocks with friends and fell while climbing back to shore. His name was not released.

The Coast Guard station at Astoria, Ore., sent a helicopter crew and a rescue swimmer was able to reach the cliff face.

The man was taken to a Coast Guard station at Ilwaco, Wash., and then to an Ilwaco hospital. His condition was not available late Thursday.
