PARIS (AP) — France has ruled out a bid for the 2020 Olympics following Annecy’s defeat for the 2018 Winter Games.

Annecy received only seven votes in last week’s IOC vote in Durban, South Africa. The South Korean city of Pyeongchang won on the first round with 63 votes, followed by Munich with 25.

The French national Olympic committee met Tuesday to review the Annecy bid and said “there will not be a bid for the 2020 Summer Olympics and Paralaympics.”

The decision was expected.

The deadline for submission of 2020 bids to the IOC is Sept. 1.

The French committee says it will consider future Olympic bids by the end of the year. France is expected to consider a bid from Paris for the 2024 Summer Games.
