TORONTO (AP) — The New York Yankees have signed left-handed reliever J.C. Romero to a minor league contract and assigned him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
The Washington Nationals announced earlier Thursday that they had given Romero his unconditional release. The 35-year-old pitched five times for Washington’s Triple-A affiliate.
Romero began the season with Philadelphia. He had a 3.86 ERA in 24 games for the Phillies before getting released.
Romero went 2-0 in the 2008 World Series when the Phillies beat Tampa Bay.
