SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — San Francisco 49ers president and CEO Jed York says the team has discussed sharing a new stadium with the Oakland Raiders but is focused “100 percent” on building a facility in Santa Clara.
York, son of owner John York, also said Tuesday the new labor agreement has made it easier to secure sponsors and the financial backing for a stadium. He says the rival teams wouldn’t be competing for league dollars.
The Bay Area teams need to replace their aging facilities, and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has urged both to work on a two-team stadium. But the franchises have never agreed on the site.
The 49ers have plans to build a stadium near the team’s headquarters in Santa Clara, and Raiders owner Al Davis wants one near the Oakland Coliseum.
