Liberty sign rookie C Ta’Shia Phillips

NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Liberty have signed rookie center Ta’Shia Phillips and released forward Felicia Chester.

The 6-foot-6 Phillips, picked eighth overall in this year’s draft by Atlanta and then dealt to Washington, averaged 1.9 points and 1.6 in 10 games for the Mystics. She averaged 14.5 points and 11.8 rebounds in four years at Xavier and was a two-time Atlantic 10 defensive player of the year.

Chester, selected 15th overall by Minnesota, totaled two points and eight rebounds in four games with the Liberty.
