CINCINNATI (AP) — The New York Mets recalled catcher Mike Nickeas from Triple-A Buffalo on Thursday to fill the roster spot opened up by Carlos Beltran’s trade to San Francisco.
Nickeas arrived in Cincinnati in time for the Mets’ game Thursday against the Reds. He hit .250 with a home run and three RBIs in eight games with New York in April before being optioned on April 29. He batted .208 with two homers and 13 RBIs in 49 games with the Bison.
Nickeas hit .200 in five games with New York in 2010.
The trade of Beltran for minor league pitching prospect Zack Wheeler was agreed to on Wednesday, but didn’t become official until 11:40 a.m. Thursday.
