VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) — A former Washington state sheriff’s deputy will spend 16 years in prison for robbing two Hampton Roads banks last year.

Forty-five-year-old Preston Robert Walcker pleaded guilty to the heists in February. He already is serving more than seven years for a bank robbery in Chesapeake and 10 years for another in Hanover County.

The Virginian-Pilot reports that Circuit Court Judge William O’Brien gave Walcker 40 years and suspended all but 16 years and 7 months. He will serve that sentence concurrently with those in the other cities.

Walcker also must pay restitution. He got away with more than $3,000 in the two robberies.
