MAJDAL SHAMS, Golan Heights (AP) — Syrian police are preventing pro-Palestinian marchers from approaching the border with the Israeli-controlled Golan Heights, a day after deadly clashes with Israeli troops there.
Police have set up a pair of checkpoints near the border area. One is about two miles (five kilometers) away, and the second is just half a mile (one kilometer) away.
Security forces have been telling people not to cross and sending them away.
On Sunday, hundreds of pro-Palestinian marchers tried to breach the border as they marked the anniversary of the Arab defeat in the 1967 Mideast war.
Israeli forces opened fire at protesters who cut through a border fence, killing some 20 people and wounding dozens more.
