PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Oregon State Police say the wife of a former Astoria, Ore., city councilman has died of injuries she suffered when a pickup truck driven by her husband was hit by a loaded log truck in Astoria.
Lt. Gregg Hastings says 83-year-old Anna Morden died Thursday at a Portland hospital where her husband, Donald Morden, remains hospitalized. Donald Morden, also 83, suffered non-life-threatening injuries in Tuesday’s crash.
Astoria Mayor Willis Van Dusen tells the Daily Astorian that the Mordens were the founders of Columbia Chocolates and Don Morden served on the city council for 12 years.
The crash is under investigation. Police say the Mordens’ pickup was traveling on Highway 105 when a car pulled into its path, causing the pickup to come to a near-stop. Hastings says a loaded log truck then hit the pickup from the rear.
