CINCINNATI (AP) — Blue Jays shortstop Yunel Escobar has agreed to a two-year, $10 million contract extension that includes club options for 2014 and 2015.

The deal announced Sunday gives Escobar $5 million base salaries for each of the next two years. He also could make $5 million in each of the two club option years.

Toronto got Escobar from Atlanta in a five-player deal July 14. He avoided salary arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $2.9 million contract for this season. Escobar was batting .281 with eight homers, 26 RBIs and 42 runs scored heading into Sunday’s game against the Reds.
