WIMBLEDON, England (AP) — Austrian tennis player Sybille Bammer has retired from the sport after losing to Monica Niculescu of Romania 6-1, 6-1 Monday in the first round at Wimbledon.

The 31-year-old Bammer won two singles titles in her career and reached the quarterfinals at the 2008 U.S. Open for her best Grand Slam result.

Her best showing at Wimbledon came in 2006 when she reached the third round.

Bammer’s coach, Juergen Waber, says, “Sybille Bammer played today her last match at an international tournament and she retired from professional tennis after a successful career.”

Bammer has a 9-year-old daughter.
