STANFORD, Calif. (AP) — Bill Alhouse, a longtime assistant baseball coach at Stanford and a member of the college baseball coaches’ Hall of Fame, has died. He was 85.
Stanford said Wednesday that Alhouse died Feb. 24 at his home in nearby Palo Alto. Alhouse coached with Dutch Fehring and Everett Dean during a 16-year coaching tenure at Stanford in the 1950s and 1960s. The ’67 team featured current Cardinal coach Mark Marquess as a player.
Alhouse was a co-founder of the local Babe Ruth and Little Leagues and was also an avid volunteer, recently receiving the “Tall Tree Award” as an outstanding Palo Alto volunteer.
The video board at Stanford’s Sunken Diamond ballpark was funded in part by the Alhouse family.
A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Alhouse was born June 10, 1925.
