CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — NASCAR is moving its Hall of Fame induction ceremony from May to January beginning in 2012.
NASCAR chairman Brian France says holding the ceremony during the offseason will give the event its own identity and give the inductees their due attention.
The inaugural induction ceremony last year was held the day after the All-Star race, capping a full week of NASCAR activities. NASCAR also had difficulty getting the top active drivers to attend on a rare day off.
This year’s induction ceremony is scheduled for May 23, two days after the All-Star race.
Voting was previously held in October, but will be moved to June to fall in line with the new induction ceremony date.
