CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) — Miami has made Tony Hernandez its acting athletic director until a permanent hire is made, likely later this year.
Hernandez has been Miami’s deputy athletic director and has been with the Hurricanes for 13 years. He’s filling the spot held by Kirby Hocutt, who resigned last week to become athletic director at Texas Tech.
Hernandez is a Miami graduate and started working in athletics at the school in 1998 as a graduate assistant in academic services. He was named an assistant athletic director in 2004, an associate athletic director in 2005 and has overseen several key departments such as compliance and video operations since.
Miami expects to name Hocutt’s successor by the start of the fall semester.
