KENT, Ohio (AP) — Justin Greene scored 18 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead Kent State over Akron 79-68 on Friday night to clinch the Mid-American Conference regular-season championship.
Rodriquez Sherman added 17 points, Carlton Guyton had 16 and Randal Holt 14 for the Golden Flashes (21-10, 12-4), who became just the second team since 1963 to win back-to-back outright conference titles.
Kent State trailed 39-35 with 14:45 left and scored on 18 of its final 20 possessions to pull ahead. A dunk from Guyton with 12:21 to go gave the Golden Flashes a 44-43 lead and they led the rest of the way.
Quincy Diggs scored 12 points and Darryl Roberts and Brett McKnight each had 11 for the Zips (19-12, 9-7), who shot 50 percent from the floor (28 of 56).
Kent State trailed 31-27 at halftime, but went 22 for 32 from the floor (68.8 percent) in the second half.
