A crowd of more than 600 people gathered this morning at the Hilton Vancouver Washington to raise money for the Southwest Washington Chapter of the American Red Cross and to honor nine people and a dog as real heroes whose actions epitomize the agency’s efforts.

It was the Red Cross’ 14th annual Real Heroes Breakfast, and the six-county chapter’s only public fundraiser of the year. Friday was the most well-attended incarnation of the event.

The honorees were Connie Shearer, Ryan Michael, Eric Bergquist and Miranda Brown, Tiffani Pekkala, Charlotte Hobson and Lynette Wooldridge, Jerry Lester and Rowdy Berry, and German shepherd Sid.

Key sponsors of the Heroes Breakfast are Vesta Hospitality Group, Stichman Legal & Mediation Services, Rehrig Pacific, Tidewater, Corwin Beverage, Waste Connections and the Kaiser Permanente Foundation.

The Red Cross chapter includes Clark, Cowlitz, Skamania, Klickitat, Pacific and Wahkiakum counties.
