PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — An Oregon official says radiation readings and air samples in the state are normal after an explosion at a Japanese reactor.

The director of the state Public Health Division, Dr. Mel Kohn, said in a statement Saturday there was no health risk in the state and, given the size of the release and the state’s distance from Japan, none was expected.

He said the state will continue to monitor the air quality.
