ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — This is Michigan’s second NCAA tournament appearance under John Beilein, and there’s a different feeling surrounding the program now.
With three freshmen and a sophomore playing key roles — and no seniors on the roster — the Wolverines might finally be on their way back to national relevance after the program was hurt by sanctions in the aftermath of the Fab Five era.
Eighth-seeded Michigan takes on ninth-seeded Tennessee in the West regional on Friday.
Beilein is in his fourth year as Michigan’s coach. The Wolverines made the 2009 NCAA tournament and won their first-round game. The team took a step backward in 2010 but came on strong this season with a young group.
