SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A California utility under fire for a deadly natural gas explosion near San Francisco says it is missing 8 percent of key safety records required for its high-pressure pipelines, including some segments along the transmission line that blew up in September.
Pacific Gas & Electric Co. made the announcement Tuesday as company crews continued searching through millions of documents following state regulators’ orders.
PG&E spokesman Joe Molica did not immediately clarify which portions of Line 132 lacked pressure tests.
Regulators ordered PG&E and other utilities to produce the paperwork following the revelation that the company’s paperwork about the ruptured San Bruno segment was wrong.
The Sept. 9 blast sparked a massive fireball that killed eight people and destroyed three dozen homes in the suburb overlooking the San Francisco Bay.
