TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — San Diego State had its most successful season in 90 years as a program, winning a school-record 32 games and earning a No. 2 seed in the West Regional.
Now it’s time for the Aztecs do something else they’ve never done: Win an NCAA tournament game.
San Diego State (32-2) opens the NCAA tournament Thursday against Northern Colorado (21-10), hoping to end an 0-for-6 streak in the Division I tournament. The Mountain West Conference tournament champions have lost three NCAA tournament games under Steve Fisher, including a three-point loss to Tennessee in the first round last season.
Northern Colorado is making its first NCAA tournament appearance after beating Montana in the Big Sky championship game.
