Portland-based OpenSesame, an online marketplace that offers simple downloads of e-learning courses, won the Oregon Entrepreneurs Network’s Angel Oregon 2011 investment competition on Wednesday. The company topped a field of six competitors, including Hourglass Coffee of Vancouver, for the $185,000 award.

Each company was allowed 10 minutes to make a pitch.

In the Hourglass presentation, Kim Kapp, director of sales and operations, said the company’s patented cold-water infusion process makes coffee with less acid and cholesterol. The committee praised the Hourglass for its early sales and its retail network. Committee members raised concerns about product demand, competition, and the experience of the company’s management team.

Among businesses in the concept stage, Soothie Suckers LLC of Portland won a $25,000 investment prize. The company makes all-natural, herbal, freezable treats.
