NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Risen Star Stakes winner Mucho Macho Man has been made the 9-5 favorite in a field of 13 entered for the $1 million Louisiana Derby at the Fair Grounds.
Mucho Macho Man will leave from the No. 5 post in Saturday’s 1 1/8-mile race that serves as a prep for the Kentucky Derby on May 7.
Machen is the 7-2 second choice, followed by Elite Alex at 6-1 odds.
With a purse increase of $250,000 this year, the Louisiana Derby will be the richest race ever run in New Orleans.
The field, from the rail out, is Nacho Business, Pants on Fire, Nehro, Mavericking, Mucho Macho Man, Lion Drive, Machen, Majestic Harbor, Le Mans, Wilkinson, Left, Elite Alex and Populist Politics.
