Johnstone, Cai take halfpipe World Cup titles

AROSA, Switzerland (AP) — World champion Nathan Johnstone of Australia and Xuetong Cai of China have won halfpipe season titles in World Cup snowboarding.

Johnstone placed fifth Saturday to extend his overall points lead over Japan’s Ryo Aono.

Worlds silver medalist Iouri Podladtchikov won the season finale to lead a Swiss sweep. Jan Scherrer was second and Patrick Burgener third.

The 17-year-old Xuetong was third to hold her points advantage over Holly Crawford of Australia.

Spain’s Queralt Castellet won the event and world champion Crawford was second.
