Citing the atypically long winter-weather season, the Washington Department of Transportation has extended the deadline for motorists to remove studded tires by a week.
Studded tires must be removed by the end of April 7.
“While we’ve extended the deadline, we’re asking drivers who live in lower elevations to remove their studded tires before April 7,” said Chris Christopher, the DOT’s director of maintenance operations.
The special tires grip snow and ice, but they also damage roads when driven across wet or dry asphalt.
