OEIRAS, Portugal (AP) — Juan Martin del Potro beat Fernando Verdasco 6-2, 6-2 on Sunday in the final of the Estoril Open, winning his first clay-court event of the year.

The eighth-seeded Del Potro set the tone early, breaking Verdasco’s first service game, and went on to break his opponent twice more to cruise through the first set.

The Argentine continued to serve well, saving Verdasco’s two break opportunities and breaking the second-seeded Spaniard twice more.

It was the 2009 US Open champion’s 10th career win and second title since coming back from wrist surgery last year.
