DETROIT (AP) — Derek Jeter is not expected to start for the New York Yankees after leaving Wednesday night’s game against Detroit with a right hip injury.
Eduardo Nunez was listed as the shortstop in the lineup posted in the clubhouse before Thursday afternoon’s game. Nunez is batting ninth. Left fielder Brett Gardner is set to fill Jeter’s leadoff spot.
Jeter left during the eighth inning Wednesday. He said afterward it was nothing serious and he thought he could play Thursday, but manager Joe Girardi described him as day-to-day.
The 36-year-old Jeter is off to a quiet start, hitting .250 with only two extra-base hits.
Alex Rodriguez is also out of Thursday’s lineup, replaced at third base by Eric Chavez.
