BOSTON (AP) — The Boston Red Sox have placed shortstop Marco Scutaro on the 15-day disabled list with a strained oblique and called up infielder Jose Iglesias from Triple-A Pawtucket.
The moves were made before Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Twins.
Manager Terry Francona said Scutaro had been bothered by sore left side the past few days and went for an MRI exam Sunday morning.
He played 20 games at short, starting 17, hitting .235 with one home run and eight RBIs.
Iglesias is in the majors for the first time. He was batting .253 in 24 games with Pawtucket, scoring 11 runs and driving in four.
