BEND, Ore. (AP) — A household electricity monitor is helping Oregon homeowners improve their energy efficiency.
The Bulletin newspaper in Bend reports the Fido Home Energy Monitoring System available at EcoVentures NW provides homeowners with a real-time estimate and update on their energy usage and costs.
The system connects with individual circuits and can be viewed on a home computer.
Shawn Allen is the founder of EcoVentures NW. He said that he and others involved in the company are builders and designers who had focused on energy-efficient buildings.
But Allen says that even though they could build efficient houses, saving energy depended a lot on what people did once they moved in and how well systems in the homes actually functioned.
