DANVILLE, Va. (AP) — Paul Edwards led the Spirit of Daytona team to its second consecutive pole run in qualifying for the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series at Virginia International Raceway.
Edwards shares the No. 90 Chevrolet/Coyote with Antonio Davis. They’ll start first in Saturday’s race and try to claim the $25,000 “bounty” that Grand-Am has offered to any team that beats the reigning series championship team of Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas.
Pruett and Rojas have won six consecutive races dating back to last season. Rojas qualified their car sixth on Friday. He had a potential pole-winning run going until he went off course and damaged his car. Series rules disallowed his fast lap and he was dropped to sixth.
