CHICAGO (AP) — American midfielder Lindsay Tarpley will miss the Women’s World Cup after tearing her right anterior cruciate ligament.
Tarpley was hurt with 15 minutes left in Saturday’s 2-0 exhibition win over Japan. An MRI on Saturday night confirmed the tear, which was announced Sunday by the U.S. Soccer Federation. She will be sidelined six to eight months.
A member of the 2007 World Cup team and the gold medal winners at the 2004 and 2008 Olympics, Tarpley also tore her right ACL in 2009 playing for the Chicago Red Stars of WPS.
The 27-year-old, who has 32 goals in 125 international appearances, will be replaced on the U.S. roster.
