A motorcyclist who received CPR from two sheriff’s deputies and was airlifted to a hospital after a serious crash Friday has been upgraded to satisfactory condition.

As of late Sunday, 45-year-old Gene Hendrickson of Vancouver was listed as critical in the intensive care unit at Southwest Washington Medical Center. A nursing supervisor on Monday said he is now satisfactory.

Hendrickson suffered head injuries, as well as multiple fractures, in a 4:49 p.m. crash Friday on Northwest 41st Avenue just north of 179th Street. He was transported by Life Flight helicopter to the medical center.

Clark County Sheriff’s Detective Jim Payne said Hendrickson was driving north on Northwest 41st Avenue at an excessive speed when he crossed the center line and crashed his motorcycle into an oncoming vehicle driven by Ryan Kole, 17, of Vancouver.

Neither Kole nor his passenger, Jensen Smith, 17, of Vancouver, was injured.
