WASHINGTON (AP) — Charlie Davies says he hopes to be recovered from his strained hamstring in time for D.C. United’s next MLS game.

Davies will miss this weekend’s exhibition game against the Dutch club Ajax. He said Tuesday he is targeting the May 29 game against Portland for his return.

Davies was injured in the first half of Saturday’s draw with Colorado.

The injury comes at an inopportune time for the United striker, who is hoping to make the U.S. team for next month’s Gold Cup. Davies hasn’t played for the national squad since his car accident in 2009.

Davies has six goals this season, second in MLS behind Landon Donovan.
