Washougal — Students and staff have learned how to conserve energy at Cape Horn-Skye Elementary and Canyon Creek Middle School. The schools were recently awarded Level 1 certification by the Washington Green Schools Team.

Staff and students met the requirements to conserve energy by turning off lights when they leave rooms, closing the blinds and turning off computers, projectors and other electrical devices before they leave for the day.

They also have implemented a successful composting program with food scraps from lunches.
