ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Right wing Emerson Etem has signed a three-year deal with the Anaheim Ducks, who drafted the Long Beach native in the first round last summer.
Etem scored 80 points with a plus-41 rating this season for the Medicine Hat Tigers of the WHL, finishing fifth in the junior league with 45 goals.
Etem turns 19 next month. He grew up just west of Anaheim in Long Beach, training with the Los Angeles Hockey Club before going to prep school in Minnesota.
Anaheim chose him with the 29th overall pick in last year’s draft, making Etem the third-highest drafted Southern California product in NHL history.
