INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Colts owner Jim Irsay says Peyton Manning should be ready to play by the preseason — if there is one — after having a second surgery on his neck.
The comment appeared on Irsay’s Twitter account shortly after The Indianapolis Star first reported that Manning had “minimally invasive” surgery on his neck at Chicago’s Northwestern Memorial Hospital. The procedure was performed by the same surgeon who did Manning’s first neck surgery, 15 months ago.
Irsay says it will take Manning about eight weeks to completely recover.
Manning has started 227 consecutive games including the playoffs, second only to Brett Favre’s 321.
