OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Washington state lawmakers are moving through a long agenda of bill as they rush to finish their work in the final hours of a 30-day special session.

The House quickly approved a series of measures Wednesday morning, including a new construction budget and a plan to lower the state’s debt limit. The Senate is expected to take a final vote Wednesday on a state budget that will slash education spending to fill a $5 billion budget shortfall over the next two years.

Lawmakers have spent the past week in late-night negotiations to settle major policy disagreements on issues such as workers’ compensation, the state’s debt limit and the new state budget. They expect to finish by Wednesday night.
